Civil courage – Gaze or help?

SWR, 2009, 45 min.

A film that analyses why people fail to display civil courage in everyday situations.

Every day, people are attacked in Germany – in full view of the public and in broad daylight. Bystanders look on without coming to the aid of people who are being molested and abused. Liz Wieskerstrauch and her team want to know why this is. Insecurity, cowardice, fear for one’s own life, indifference, or ignorance – there are many possible reasons why so few people intervene when it comes to helping someone else in an emergency and displaying civil courage.
