On 16 April 2017, the Turkish people will decide whether to introduce a presidential system designed to further extend the powers of President Erdoğan. Arte Re: Erdoğan’s referendum – the path to dictatorship? shows how this referendum is dividing the entire nation.
In Istanbul, we meet representatives of both sides: on the one hand, the cartoonist Ipek Özsüslü (32), who continues to take a stand against Erdoğan and his values in her satirical magazine; on the other hand, the AKP youth worker Taha Kurt (30), who considers the President to be like a caring older brother in a strong Turkish family, and who is hoping for his victory.
