Cormorants and otters can devour an entire pond full of fish in a single night. Now that these two species are protected, the east German lake district has become their preferred habitat. But while conservationists are pleased about their growing populations and taking additional measures to protect them, the very existence of the fish and fishermen is under threat. More and more fishermen in Lusatia and Mecklenburg-West Pomerania are giving up their ponds. Arte Re describes their uphill struggle against these predators – and the bureaucratic machinery.
