ARTE Re: My Body Belongs to Me – A Referendum Splits Ireland

NDR/ARTE, 2018, 30 min.
Krysia Lynch looks after mothers-to-be in Dublin – and is at the same time campaigning for the right to have an abortion. Because in Ireland, even pregnant women who want their child but learn that it is not viable are not allowed to have an abortion. Instead, they have to carry the child to term or until no heart sounds can be heard any more. This could now be changing: on 25 May, the Irish people are holding a referendum to decide whether to repeal the equal treatment of the unborn child and the mother currently enshrined in the law. ARTE RE shows Krysia’s commitment to women’s self-determination – and how the opposite party is also mobilising its followers in the streets of Ireland.
