Eugen and Roger Cicero were father and son, but above all they were exceptional artists. While Eugen achieved fame as a piano virtuoso in the 1960s and performed with star singers such as Ella Fitzgerald and Shirley Bassey, Roger filled huge concert halls years later as one of Germany’s most gifted singers. Their life stories are inextricably interwoven and show fascinating parallels – genius paired with an unparalleled passion, the overcoming of boundaries, the balancing act between commercial success and artistic integrity and ultimately the tragic outcome that still shakes the music world today.

In their touching documentary film CICERO – TWO LIVES, ONE STAGE, Kai Wessel, Katharina Rinderle and Tina Freitag reveal the unique father-son relationship between two exceptional talents. Close companions and well-known contemporary witnesses shed light on two geniuses who were repeatedly driven back to the stage. Extraordinary concert moments make the painful gap left by their early deaths all the clearer. An emotional homage to two radiant personalities full of contradictions, humour and inspiration – as free and surprising as their music.

CICERO – ZWEI LEBEN, EINE BÜHNE is a LATEMAR FILM cinema production supported by Nordmedia, FFF Bayern, DFFF – in co-production with NDR/rbb, Aspekt Telefilm, Evolution Arts&Film, Provobis Film, Moviepool and Martin Richter Filmproduktion (Co-Producers: Sorin Manu, Oliver Behrmann, Jens Susa, Bernadette Schugg, Martin Richter, Benjamin Wüpper) and Associate Producer: Sandra Maischberger.
