The job is dangerous and pays little more than the minimum wage. Bike couriers carrying pink or turquoise, thermally insulated boxes on their backs are a new phenomenon on the streets of big European cities. Their cargo: hot food from restaurants for customers who order meals on the Internet for home delivery.
The bicycle couriers ride for the rival start-ups “Deliveroo” and “Foodora” – in 12 European countries. Now, the food deliverers are fighting for better working conditions. Arte Re shows their normal working conditions, and how a trans-national industrial dispute is gathering momentum.
